Different Log Splitters To Purchase : What To Keep In Mind

By Lane Griffin

In the past, people used to split wood using axes. Besides consuming a lot of time and energy, this exercise was very exerting thus, acquired the tag 'back breaking' attached to it. The invention of log splitters has saved many people from this arduous task. Thanks to these machines winters are easier to manage.

The type of machine used is important. It determines where it can be used, the fuel it can use and most importantly the amount of wood which it can split given a certain amount of time. There are mainly four types of machines used in splitting wood.

The electric equipment, as their name suggests use standard household electric current. They too are lightweight and very easy to operate. They split more wood as compared to the manual ones.

These machines are highly convenient as they are quiet and since they do not produce any fumes, they are environmentally friendly. They can be used indoors and split much more wood than the manual ones. However, they limit their use to areas with access to electricity and remote areas need generators in order for one to use them. They cost slightly more than the manual type.

The gas powered ones offer services for remote applications and commercial applications. Apart from being heavier and noisy, they are the least environmentally friendly as they pollute the air with toxic fumes. They require much more space for storage. Despite all these, gasoline powered machines produce a lot of wood in a very short time. In fact, they are widely used by commercial outlets like restaurants. Because of this, they cost more than the other machines.

The hydraulic machines split more wood compared to the manual and electric type. They also come in different sizes and have more significant surface area as compared to other machines. They are highly suitable for outdoor use especially camping among other excursions since they have a switch which allows one to operate them safely.

When buying the machines, it is vital to consider the amount of wood that is used in your family or business. This should guide you in buying the correct type of machine depending on its capacity. The price is also a guiding factor and in the case of the machines, the higher the quality of the machine the higher its price. It is important to shop around and settle for the most convenient machine in your case.

Besides the type, the place to buy the log splitters should also be put into consideration. Although there are many virtual shops which offer sale of the tools online, it is recommended that one purchases these machines locally. This helps one to verify the authenticity of the machine and avoid any costs of shipping incurred when buying online. They is also the issue of warranty where in case of any damage one can easily return the machine to the local store and have it checked.
